I’m just going to cut to the chase: I f**king LOVE Lifetime, ever since I first heard “Hello Bastards” on a record player sitting on the floor in Brandon D’Agostino’s bedroom in 11th grade. Great album. Changed the way I played guitar. Followed by “Jersey’s Best Dancers” which is another phenominal recording, and is in many of my “Top 10 Albums…” lists. Perfect from front to back. So with all the reunion talk and recording news, anyone should have been apprehensive of a band re-forming after 10 years (more or less). Not to mention that every scene-kid/hipster got fuming mad when it was announced the band had signed to none other than Decaydence Records, run by the bass player from Fall Out Boy. I’m not even going to touch that area, as I could really care less at this point as to who put out the record… which leads me to my main point: this is good!
At first listen I was kind of bummed at how poppy this album is, but now I realize it really is just a continuance of what they were writing with “Jersey’s Best Dancers”, which is a significantly poppier record than “Hello Bastards”, so this new album is just a poppier continuance of “Jersey’s Best Dancers”. Get it? Also, Ari’s voice is a lot more on-key and “sung” rather than mumbled monotonely than before, which took a little getting used to, but the whole record sounds a lot more produced than its predecessors… not a bad thing.
Well anyway, my buddy Will wrote a review of this record on his site, Sound As Language, linked below. I’d go there if you want a more in-depth (read: better) synopsis.
Definitely a recommended album for those who like “Jersey’s Best Dancers” or maybe Saves the Day’s first two albums… only complaint is I find “Can’t Think About It Now” WAY too radio sounding.
